Chocolate — Yes, You Can – The East Hampton Star – To Your Health

Dr. James Dillard writes an incredibly informative post on the history of chocolate and how it effects the brain.  He dispels many myths about chocolate and health.  For example, he notes that the amount of caffeine in chocolate is minimal.  But there is another compound  in chocolate, theobromide, that might enhance caffeine’s effects.

Dillard also doesn’t omit some of the less desirable effects of eating a lot of chocolate.

“Now that you’re all ready to run out and stock up on chocolate bars, let me remind you of the downside. Chocolate can increase stomach acid reflux, irritable bowel symptoms in some people, and cause allergic reactions, skin outbreaks, weight gain, and dental cavities.”
